Local Area / Activities
The landscape in this region is particularly picturesque, encompassing rolling hills dotted with quaint hilltop villages and countless hiking trails, extensive sunflower fields, olive groves and formidable area of vineyards. This region is steep with history with plenty of sites to visit. Situated just south of Avignon, you are perfectly positioned between the idyllic villages of Les Alpilles National Park to the south and the lovely city of Avignon to the north. The local village of Graveson, Chateaurenard and Eyragues are only between 4 to 5 kilometres from the Mas and have picturesque old centre with pretty cafes and restaurants, a boulangerie and grocery shop. To the south is the lively village of St Rémy de Provence at just 12 kilometres, a charming classical little town, capital of the Alpilles with all the amenities, boulangeries, little boutiques, quaint pavement cafes and excellent restaurants. On its winding cobbled lanes you will discover the small squares, historic buildings, churches and museums and on Wednesday the colourful weekly market will offer you the opportunity to discover local products and handicrafts which is a must to see. Further south is Les Baux de Provence, considered 'one of the most beautiful villages in France', Arles, Nîmes, Pont du Gard and Uzès and other towns you can easily visit in a day, and at less than 45 minutes' drive and to the east is the Luberon region and further south, Camargue's unique wetland populated by pink flamingos and wild horses. Avignon to the north with its UNESCO world heritage site, with its magnificent Palais du Papes, which is one of the architectural wonders of France is just 16 kilometres away and would make an ideal day trip. Just north of Avignon is the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region for wine lovers as well.
