General Description

L'Olivier was built in the 1880's for a wealthy merchant as a prestigious family home. Today the house has been lovingly renovated and equipped with all modern comforts. It retains its old world charm, with beautiful original tile floors and decorative fireplaces, whilst being very comfortable to live in.

The house is ideally located, only a stone's throw away from the market square, the bakeries, shops and restaurants, yet in a quiet neighbourhood.

The garden which surrounds the house features a swimming pool (8 x 4mt, with security cover), which can be heated in the shoulder seasons. The terraces are furnished with patio furniture and sun loungers, allowing you to make the most of summer living. Secure parking is provided for one car, and further parking can be found on the street outside the property.

Accommodation Facilities

The village of Saint-Chinian is halfway between the mountains and the sea, and surrounded by vineyards and spectacular landscape. There are wonderful walks along river Vernazobre, where you can discover rock-pools and wonderful plants.

Saint-Chinian has all services and shops you would want, and a twice weekly market allows you to shop just like the locals do. The roast chickens are delicious, as is the paella, and the fruit and vegetables in season taste wonderful!

The region has many great opportunities for sightseeing, and Saint-Chinian is ideally placed to explore in all directions. Carcassonne and Montpellier are easily reached, as are the Cathar castles and the beaches along the Mediterranean sea.
Bedrooms: The grand staircase leads to the first floor (second floor for North Americans), where the bedrooms and bathrooms are located.

The master bedroom overlooks the street side and is furnished with a double bed (160 x 210 cm).

The corner bedroom overlooks the street and the front of the house and is furnished with a double bed (1.6 x 2 mt), and an extendable child's bed (90 x 140 cm, extendable to 200 cm).

The twin bedroom is furnished with two single beds (80 x 200 cm) which can be pushed together to make a double bed. The sofa in this room converts into a bed. This bedroom overlooks the front of the house.

The fourth bedroom is furnished with a double bed (180 x 200 cm)and overlooks the garden.
Bathrooms: The en-suite bathroom of the master bedroom features a walk-in shower, bath tub, WC, bidet and wash basin.

The en-suite shower room of the corner bedroom features a shower cubicle, WC, bidet and wash basin.

A shower room at the end of the first floor hallway features a large shower cubicle, WC and wash basin.

On the ground floor there is a separate WC.
Kitchen: The kitchen and conservatory are next to the dining room. The conservatory was originally an orangery, designed to overwinter plants. It has been completely refurbished with new windows, and the wall that separated it from the kitchen was removed, creating a wonderfully light and airy space with a view onto the garden.

The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with an induction cooker, electric oven, microwave oven, dishwasher electric coffee maker and toaster. Behind the kitchen is a pantry with a fridge/freezer, washing machine and a tumble dryer.
Living Rooms: The large sitting room features with comfortable sofas and easy chairs as well as a large flat screen TV (French channels and satellite stations).

Across the hallway from the sitting room is the library: a cozy room with a bookcase lined wall, easy chairs and a desk - perfect if you want to have some quiet time or need to work during your stay.
Other Rooms: The dining room features a large sandstone fireplace surround. The dining table can be extended to seat ten persons, and a French door leads onto the terrace outside.
Linen/Cleaning/Towels etc: Linens, bedding and bath towels are included in the rental.

A one-off charge of €150 towards laundry and final clean is included in the rental price of the first week.


Outside: French doors lead from the conservatory and the dining room onto a terrace and to the garden and the swimming pool. Shaded by a large mulberry tree and furnished with table and chairs for outside eating, the terrace also features a brick-built BBQ and a Weber gas BBQ.

Another terrace is across from the front door.
