General Description

The classic façade of this Maison de Maïtre is approached from the beautiful central square of Saint-Jean-de-Côle, while the rear of the house looks over the secluded gardens to the countryside beyond, with separate vehicular access from the grounds to the main road. The grounds extend to some 4,000 m² . The setting can be seen readily on Google Earth. St Jean de Côle has a small supermarket, pharmacy, hairdressing salon, tourist office, and 5 restaurants/bars. Fresh bread, etc. can be delivered to the front door daily by arrangement. The terrace is fully equipped for sitting and dining outside, with seating for 12 or more. WiFi is available throughout the house, TV with UK satellite channels, and DVD.

Perigueux (33km, 38 minutes by car) is the capital town of the Dordogne - a mid-size, bustling town with a fine Cathedral, medieval and renaissance squares, and many traditional restaurants and markets. All the usual amenities are found in the thriving town of Thiviers (7 km.), which has four supermarkets, and a traditional market every Saturday. Brantôme (19km, 18 minutes by car) is a very pretty town celebrated as "the Venice of the South West”. It has many excellent restaurants, and a popular market on Fridays.St Jean de Côle is well placed for visiting the many historic Chateaux and sites in the area. The famous caves paintings at Les Eyzies, the Vézère valley, and Lascaux are easily reached by car. The closest cave system is Le Grottes de Villars (10km, 12 minutes by car). Full details of places to visit and activities are available at the tourist office in the square.

Nearest airports are Limoges (55 minutes), Bergerac (80 minutes); Brive La Gayarde in summer (80 minutes) and Bordeaux (2 hours). St Jean de Côle can be reached by car in 7-8 hours from Calais.

Bedrooms: There are 4 bedrooms approached from the landing on the first floor:

Bedroom 3 has a queensize double bed.
Bedroom 4 has twin beds and shares a walkthrough ensuite bathroom with Bedroom 3.

There are two bedrooms approached from the landing on the second floor:

Bedroom 5 has a kingsize bed, a single bed, and ensuite bathroom with jacuzzi bath.
Bedroom 5 has a kingsize bed, a single bed, and ensuite bathroom with jacuzzi bath.
Bathrooms: All 5 bathrooms have two basins, a separate shower, bath with shower, and WC.
Kitchen: Fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven and hob, microwave, washing machine, tumbler dryer, table and chairs.

Accessible from the terrace is the summer kitchen/games room, with a second sink, fridge, microwave, and dishwasher. Pool table. Separate WC with hand basin.

Outside: The extensive terrace is set in the inner garden which leads through lockable gates to the pool and the park with trees, shrubs and grassed areas, private parking for cars, and ultimately vehicular access to the road through the electric gates. The covered terrace has conservatory furniture for sitting out, and dining tables and chairs to seat 12 or more. There are other tables and chairs for relaxed sitting or dining under the trees. The 12 x 6 metre heated salt water pool is fully enclosed and the only access is through secondary lockable gates; there is an electrically operated hard cover for extra security. Vehicle access to the main road is through electrically operated gates, with ample room for parking within the grounds Charcoal BBQ and gas BBQ.
Children's play areas. Swings, table-tennis and boules. A tennis court is available for hire within the village and rackets and balls are provided in the games room.
Additional notes (if any): Well located for touring the sites of the Dordogne. It has proved a favourite for families with children as the grounds are private, enclosed, and secured by gates, yet the restaurants and amenites are minutes from the front door. The following comment is typical of the feedback from clients:

Local Area / Activities

St Jean de Côle though small has much offer in terms of facilities and local bike rides and walks (in particular the Voie Verte); for visits further afield (lakes, castles, historic sites and activities) please consult the in-house literature or visit the tourist office (2 minutes from the door).
