General Description

Tilleul  at Le Jardin des Amis, is a light and sunny house on 3 levels comfortably sleeping 8-9 people with a large terrace equipped with garden furniture for al fresco dining. Built in stone, it was once a farm building (stables and hayloft) and dates back 200 years approximately.

The house is ideal form the larger family or 2 families sharing, with the huge top floor dormitory-style bedroom being very popular with children! This room has space to add a fifth single bed if required.

The ground floor is open plan with a recently fitted, well equipped kitchen/dining area, whilst the comfortable lounge area has a wood burner for low-season lets.

The large shared pool is to the rear of the house - a great spot for making new friends for adults and children alike! Adjacent to the pool is our summer pool bar (operated on an 'honesty bar' basis) which also houses a library of adult & childrens books, games aand sports equipment. Beyond the pool is a large area of grass with swings, picnic benches, table tennis, badminton etc. or for those wanting a less energetic time, why not borrow a book and relax in a hammock in our orchard?

Each cottage is provided with a charcoal barbecue but we also have two big barbecues beside our bar for sociable evenings with other guests.

Local Area / Activities

Meyrals has  a boulangerie, boucherie (open 3 days a week) 2 restaurants and bar. In July & August there is a small weekly market. The nearest supermarket, bank and other commerce is in St. Cyprien - 3 miles to our south, which is also our nearest place to get to the Dordogne river for paddling, canoeing etc.

4 miles to our north is the village of Les Eyzies which is famed for it's prehistoric caves and other remains; National museum of pre-history and the Vezere river. A good range of restaurants to choose from.

World-famous Sarlat-La-Canéda, 15k (9 miles) from us, is the capital of the Périgord Noir and the town boasts the highest density of listed buildings in Europe. Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat remained preserved and is one of the towns that most represents 14th century France. Sarlat is on France's Tentative List for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The centre of the old town consists of impeccably restored stone buildings and is largely car-free.

Sarlat teems with life on Saturday mornings when one of the biggest markets in the region is held. Visit on a balmy summer evening and you will be entertained by street musicians as you dine at pavement cafes.

More information on the many delights of this area of the Dordogne can be found on our own website.
