Nestled into the tranquil landscape, La Porcherie is a high-quality gite for two, in the hamlet of Villemonteix, which is at the gateway to the Monts et Barrages, and the Millevaches Regional Park. Renovated to a very high standard, the building has kept all the character one would expect, with wood beams and stone walls mixed with the comfort of modern conveniences to provide a comfortable retreat from the pressures of modern life.
The accommodation comprises one bedroom (double bed) with radio/CD player, bathroom (with a large shower cabin), and an open-plan sitting-room/kitchen. The kitchen is fitted with a quality cooker, microwave and washing machine. A TV/DVD is provided (with a selection of DVDs) and access to the owners book library is given for the duration of your stay.
The gite is available for rent all year, and if you decide to come and experience the Limousin in low or mid-season we can assure your warmth and comfort. The bathroom is equipped with an electric heater that fills the room with warm air in a very short time. The rest of the gite is heated by a wood burner. Wood is included in the tariff during the appropriate seasons.
Outside there is a small private garden area with terrace, seating, barbeque and an 'above ground' swimming pool (approximately 24 x 12 foot) situated to make the most of daylong sunshine. In addition, we are able to offer extras and courses including tai chi, photography, and a chef for the evening!
Area/Local Activities
The rural nature of this area lends itself well to many countryside pursuits from walking and cycling to mushroom hunting and fishing. With an abundance of lakes nearby - including Lac de St Helene (5 mins) and Lac de Vassiviere (40 mins) - there are a myriad of water sports on offer.
History lovers will find many points of interest including the local medieval town of St Leonard de Noblat (10 mins), a resistance museum at Peyrat-Le-Chateau (15 mins), and the martyrs' village of Oradour-sur-Glane (50 mins). The Limoges area is, of course, famous for the production of both porcelain and enamels.
Villemonteix is at the gateway to the Monts and Barrages region, the Plateau de Millevaches and the volcanic region of the Massif Central (2 hours). Whether you are looking to relax or do something more energetic there is plenty this relatively undiscovered part of France has to offer.
