Marpain Guesthouse, built as a farmhouse in 1787, has now been renovated into four apartments, each with its own entrance. River fishing and swimming.

Property Description  

 

The house is situated on the quiet river l'Ognon, which offers possibilities of fishing and swimming or the use of a rowing boat or canoe to explore the river and its environment. It is also possible to rent a bike and explore the environment and its beautiful, historical villages.

Apartment 2 has a river view and consists of two rooms: Living area (couch and two armchairs) with kitchenette (refrigerator, microwave/oven, cooking ring, pots and pans, plates and cutlery), dining table with two chairs. Bedroom with a wood fireplace, double bed. Television, Shower and toilet.  Linen and towels will be provided. Apartments 1 and 2 can be combined for a family with 3 or 4 children.

On the front side of the Guesthouse, where the stables used to be, there is now a common space that can be used by all occupants. Here coffee and tea can be made and an old farmer's table can seat up to 14 people for joint meals. Furthermore there are a number of provisions for all occupants: a modest library, some family games  and some kitchen utensils (mixer, fridge/freezer, microwave, pressure cooker etc). This common space makes the Guesthouse very suitable for groups, family reunions and courses of different kinds. Groups can also make use of the attic above the four apartments.

Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) can be provided by us to all guests (table d'hôtes) or collectively to groups. Extra beds are available (20 euro/week). Bed linen and towels will be provided. Our guests are welcome to use the garden (garden chairs, tables). Baby bed (with blanket and sheets) is available (20 euro/week). Barbeque is available for use. A private parking lot is available. All apartments have central heating, all prices exclude costs of heating. A rowing boat (1), canoe (1), kayak (2) and bikes (3) can be rented (10 euro/day). 

When renting an apartment for a week, a 50 euro security deposit has to be paid on the day of arrival. Upon departure 40 euro has to be paid to cover cleaning costs.

 

 

 

Area/Local Activities

 

Marpain is located in the Jura, which is part of Franche Comté,  famous for its cheeses and Jura wines. Of course it is also famous for all kinds of outdoor activities and sports, such as hiking, fishing, swimming, rowing, horseback riding, playing golf (Golf de Pruneville, Dampierre sur le Doubs and Parcey, golf public du Val d'Amour) and skiing (Champagnole, Pontarlier). Tennis (in Pesmes); hour rate 5 euros, week rate 15 euros).

 

Just north of Marpain is Pesmes, which has been qualified as "one of the hundred most beautiful villages in France" offers two bakers, a supermarket, butcher, gas station, bank and several restaurants. Pesmes has a green market once a week. Further north is Gray, built on the banks of the river Saône. To the south there is Dole, situated on the river Doubs. To the east, just 45 minutes drive from Marpain, lies Besançon, the capital of Franche Comté. To the west, just 45 minutes drive from Marpain, lies Dijon, the capital of Burgundy.
