French Gite

The term French Gite was originally used for simple rustic accommodation in rural France.  Today, however, the word gite is used much more readily and French Gites now range from small holiday cottages, grand farmhouses, luxury apartments to large holiday gites with pool or even a chateau.  You can rent French gites by the week, fortnight or even longer and you make your own travel arrangements.

French Gites are available for both small and large groups.  Usually a gite is a self-contained property, often with a garden, and sometimes can be a gite with pool.  French gites are sometimes independent of other properties, and sometimes form part of a small group of gites at the same location, usually called a gite complex.  The owners may also live on the same site as the gite or gites and are usually discreet with their presence but are available to offer advice about the region whilst staying in your holiday gite.

To rent a French gite usually costs a lot less than staying in a hotel but if you are looking for a bit of luxury, then there are many luxury gites with pool which offer high standard of accommodation.

There are several websites now advertising French Gites, such as French Maison, where you can contact the owner of the gite directly, by email or phone.  You are then able to ask further questions about the gites and see more photographs before making a booking.  It is a good idea to book a gite in France as early as possible. The best gites usually get snapped up quickly.

Renting a French Gite can be a great way to spend a holiday giving you independence and a chance to see the real France.
