In a hectare of private grounds with a large swimming pool and sauna, the logis offers lovely views, total peace and tranquillity, yet is within striking distance of the coast and historic towns such as Cognac, Bordeaux and St. Emilion. It provides luxury accommodation for a group of up to 12 adults and 4 children. We accept bookings for smaller groups at reduced prices out of high season. Set on its own hill with lovely views all around, the house has been lovingly restored to provide spacious accommodation.
There are six bedrooms and five bathrooms, and most rooms are arranged flexibly to provide doubles, twins or family rooms. There is a large dining room, a sitting room, a modern kitchen, a television room and a study. The house is decorated in a traditional style to provide elegant surroundings. Central heating and a log fire provide a cosy welcome in winter. There is satellite TV, DVD, hi-fi and telephone, and internet access can be arranged. The English owners live behind the property, out of sight and earshot, but can provide help if required. The swimming pool (12x6m) is in a sunny corner, protected by a fence and alarm. Next to the pool is a large barn with sauna.
The logis is surrounded by the wonderful rolling countryside of the southern Charente, which has among the most hours of sunshine in France. The area is characterised by pretty towns, Romanesque churches, vineyards and sunflowers. The house is midway between two market towns, each with an impressive chateau and bustling weekly market.
Cognac has been one of the main trades here for centuries. The prosperous town of Cognac is 45 minutes away, a pleasant drive through the vineyards. All the big-name distilleries offer tours and tastings, as do the small local producers. The pretty wine-producing town of St. Emilion is an hour away, as is elegant Bordeaux, with its museums, galleries and restaurants. The Atlantic coast is an hour away, famous for its long sandy beaches. The picturesque islands of Oléron and Ré are perfect for a day out. To the north are the chic old towns of La Rochelle and Rochefort, both steeped in maritime history. The gently flowing rivers of the Dronne and Charente offer lazy canoeing and swimming. The area is also excellent for walking, horse riding and cycling.
