General Property Description
Discover River Cottage, a great value, characterful and rustic cottage with swimming pool, in hot south west France with stupendous rural views. An idyllic rural haven, this beautiful cottage is full of character with original oak beams, fire places and tomette floors, but yet updated with modern bathrooms and swiming pool, located in a peaceful setting admidst the rolling hills of the Vienne.

Built into the limestone hills in the 16th Century River Cottage was originally used as an almshouse for pilgrims on the route to Santiago (St James) de Compostella in N.W. Spain. The sloping nature of the limestone rocks gives the cottage a very special character and many different venues for sunning, snoozing and alfresco dining!, an ideal holiday home, and big enough for two families to share! (Not suitable for under 5s).

A stoney lane runs past the house. It leads down to a ford and a footbridge over a river from where the cottage gets its name.
Accommodation Facilities
Bedrooms: On the ground floor is a double bedroom with extra single bed making a triple.
Upstairs is the main double bedroom which has an ancient fireplace. This master bedroom has its own door onto the stone balcony and stunning views from the window down to the river.
Second triple bedroom (double bed with single bed).
Bathrooms: On the ground floor - bathroom with shower, wash basin and wc.
Upstairs modern tiled room with shower, wc, bidet and sink
Kitchen: The living kitchen has a large sofa, two armchairs, table and chairs as well as modern oak units and all up to date conveniences. There is a large fridge freezer, washing machine, gas oven and hob, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, toaster and sink.
Living Rooms: Lounge with easy chairs and access to both the front and rear of the house.
Other Rooms: A wooden verandah the full length of the house is accessed from the kitchen.
Cleaning/Towels/Linen etc: £70 charge for cleaning, bed linen and house towels.
Outside: The first floor is accessed up the rear stone steps past the large dining patio onto the stone balcony.
Paved patio partially under a wooden verandah, with hammock, swing seat and other outdoor furniture.
Large summer above ground swimming pool area, with pleasant paved terraces for sunbathing.

Local Area / Activities
River Cottage is in a little hamlet of 4 houses and the local area is very rural. You are in the depths of the countryside, with fantastic views from the terraces. A stoney lane runs past the house, which leads down to a ford and a footbridge over a river from where the cottage gets its name.

Journet: is the nearest village with a local bar and Depot du Pain, called DOM's, a five minutes walk down the old pilgrim path. (take a short cut to the top of the field and turn left.... watch out for otters!!) Order bread the day before for collection next day. The nearest large village, La Trimouille is 5 km away with small shops, restaurants, local doctor and two pharmacies.

The beautiful town of Montmorillion is 10 minutes drive away and has 4 large supermarkets and a range of shops and restaurants. Excellent town swimming pool with indoor and outdoor pools. Large Hypercentre on the Poitiers road out of town.

Poitiers: Originally a Roman town with great history and tourist facilities. The most famous is Futuroscope which is great for the more scientific minded of us.

Limoges: Great for pottery and large hypermarkets.
