Spacious and luxurious apartment in a beautiful 17th century Château, that guards the entrance to the historic village of Samoëns in the French Alps. A fabulous ski station, part of the Grand Massif, it's also wonderful in summer with its large moated garden and swimming pool.
The private, self-contained apartment sleeps 8 (or 10 if two of them are young children). Weekly rental prices range from 1500 euros in the low season to 2,500 euros at peak times. Rental includes heating, linen and local taxes. Newly renovated and decorated, the apartment takes up most of the Château’s first floor. All the rooms are spacious and high ceilinged with comfortable modern beds and full equipment. Bedrooms face across the garden to the ski slopes and from the living room you see the northern slopes and the 11th century chapel. There's a gas flame iron stove for extra ambiance.
Samoëns dates back to the 9th century and is the only ski station in France to be listed as an historic village. Dominating the village is a hillside botanical garden with 8000 species which became a famous example of innovative landscaping at the beginning of the last century.
Samoëns is the focal point of a valley rich in cultural tradition as well as natural wonders. Neighbouring Sixt, at the head of the valley is a French national site, with a 12th century abbey and vast natural reserves that include Europe’s highest sheer limestone face on Tenneverge. This peak at Fer à Cheval forms part of a remarkable glacial circle with several waterfalls cascading from its high ledges. Among nearby architectural treasures are the graceful monastic ensemble of the Chartreuse of Reposoir, and the Chateau of Monthon-St-Bernard near Annecy, begun in the 13th century. Annecy, with its superb lake and fascinating old canals, is one of many memorable day-trips within an hour of Samoëns. Others include Geneva and Evian. Chamonix, less than an hour from the house.
